Dear Colleagues,

Fusion scientists among the world organize educational events in order to explain the purpose of fusion research to the public or to teach the scientific and technological fields related to fusion physics and technologies, from middle schools up to PhD students. The wide range of scientific and technological domains needed to build fusion experiments make fusion an exciting topic for students and is an ideal subject to get them interested to science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM). The international aspect of fusion research is also the perfect opportunity for students to learn about how modern science is performed in the frame of large collaborations.

In collaboration with IOP Physics Education journal, we have opened a new collection of papers in order to describe the various educational resources and activities set up by fusion scientists all around the world:

Publishing about teaching, educational practices and scientific outreach can be used to valorise collective or personal works, which are unfortunately often considered as barely visible and valuable.

Examples of contributions could include:

- Examples of successful teaching programs, but also lessons learned for not so successful ones
- Educational activities related to fusion (from middle school up to international schools on fusion)
- Public outreach content and material descriptions used during science fairs
- Ideas for classroom activities and experiments (including numerics)
- Master students hands-on on fusion science and technology
- Lectures notes for courses related to fusion
- Updates on recent discoveries or "history of ." style papers

The contributions of this collection are subject to the same review process and high standard as regular "Physics Education" [1] and "European Journal of Physics" [2] articles and should be submitted in the same way (submission details are available on the web page).

Contributions to the collection are open without a deadline. Accepted papers will appear on an ongoing basis, such as to increase the collection over the years.

Feel free to contact us for any questions,

Best regards,

Alf Köhn (University of Stuttgart, Germany) and Julien Hillairet (CEA IRFM, France),
Guest Editors of the IOP Spotlight on Nuclear Fusion
