Hi guys,

sorry for being out of reach for past few days (weeks) - I had final exam
going on, which is now finally over :-)

Meanwhile, there were some discussions about possiblities of new research
on GOLEM with some senior physicists from IPP. These also included a joint
experiment of magnetic diagnostics and probe diagnostics, in order to
investigate poloidal rotation velocity changes during discharges. The main
idea is basically the same as we discussed on Gomtraic meeting wile you
were all here in Prague (by the way, tokamak was not affected by rent
flood, despite being right next to river). Poloidal rotation is mainly E_r
x B_phi drift. B_phi is known from magnetics and E_r is known from probe
measurements, so v_theta can be calculated. This quantity can be also
estimated by detection of magnetic islands using FFT and c-correlation. The
question now stands, how much similar will be detected and "calculated"
v_theta? Nobody knows for sure...

v_theta detection is basically in your hands. You did not include v_theta
measurements in your report yet, but it will be necessary to do it at some
point, since it is required. You have most of what you need to do so, only
little more work is necessary for obtaining v_theta -- the Gomtraic will
now be less intensive anyways. Obtaining v_theta is now more in form of
"research collaboration" and learning data processing techniques used on
research institutes (i.e. learning to do your future work or to get better
at it).

I would like to help you now with this all -- of course once you are
finished with assignments at your own universities. Let me please know how
are you standing with this and when can you start.

Regards,
Tomas
