Production/Wanted/RawIdeas/ProbeMeasurements/1016Renaud/proposal

Claudiu developed a new electronics for probe measurements (see the attached article) and it was presented at the last Kiten Summer School earlier this year by Prof. Popa. What I understood (and please correct me if I am wrong) is that this electronics has not been tested in a tokamak yet and I thought that it could be easily done in GOLEM since experiments can be performed and analysed remotely via internet (so we solve the issue related to mobility and its cost).

Moreover, the technique is not optimised for multi I-V characteristic measurements in time but for only one (correct?). Since in tokamaks the temporal evaluation of the plasma parameters is important due to more or less fast changes, it would be a great improvement to upgrade the design for this purpose.

The technique is based on the charging/discharging capability of one capacitor. In order to have a multi I-V measurement, it would be maybe enough to add a second capacitor which is charging when the 1st one is discharging. Then, one needs to find the correct capacitors which can do this at a frequency rate of ~milliseconds.

I think it could be a nice topic for a student, who could develop the electronics, build it and test it in Golem, and of course lead to a publication.
